WEEKLY GATHERINGS

Learn together. Belong together.

FOR YOUNG PEOPLE AGED 11–14

Weekly Gatherings

Wild Kin Weekly Gatherings bring a consistent group of young people aged 11 to 14 together to follow the Wild Kin Curriculum, explore their current projects and build genuine friendships over time.

This age group has been chosen deliberately. Young people approaching adolescence need opportunities created specifically for them: somewhere to follow their interests, develop independence, be taken seriously and find a tribe of their own.

Weekly Gatherings will be offered at two locations: The Briars on the Mornington Peninsula and CERES Community Environment Park in Melbourne. Each gathering combines purposeful learning, creativity, journalling, time in nature and space to simply catch up and belong.

Families can choose the location that works for them or attend both. Each location is $10 per young person, per week for this founding term.

Our first gatherings will begin in mid-October 2026. Term 4 will be a founding round, gently structured around shared tasks, discussion and exploration. Founding families will help us learn what works, shape what comes next and develop age-appropriate learning modules that illuminate future pathways for young conservationists, ecologists, zoologists, wildlife carers, zookeepers, marine biologists, park rangers, environmental educators, wildlife photographers and advocates.

Casual online gatherings may also be arranged privately for young people connecting from further afield.

COMING ASAP !!!

Summer Wild

Summer Wild continues across the full 10-week summer break, including Christmas and New Year. Not every young person travels, has extended family nearby or finds the long break easy. Wild Kin will remain a place to connect.

We will meet casually at beaches, rivers, swimming places, parks, gardens, piers and lookouts to explore, create, try new things and have fun together. There are no formal lessons, required projects or expectations to keep up. Learning happens naturally through conversation, curiosity, shared adventures and whatever captures the group’s interest.

Families can join whenever it suits them. It is a summer of friendship, freedom and discovery, with even less school than Wild Kin usually feels like.

COMING SOON

As we begin….

PARENT OR CARER PARTICIPATION

Wild Kin Field Experiences are family-supported adventures, not drop-and-run activities. A parent or responsible carer must attend, remain with and actively supervise their child for the entire gathering. Families remain responsible for their child’s transport, admission, meals, personal needs and wellbeing throughout the experience.

SIBLINGS AND THE COHORT

Wild Kin activities are currently being created specifically for young people aged 11 to 14.

Younger siblings are welcome to attend with their families, but must remain with their parent or carer and will not be included in the facilitated Wild Kin session. We understand how much energy, preparation and care it takes to create a meaningful experience for younger children. This age group is already well supported by many homeschool meet-ups, so it is not our immediate focus.

However, Wild Kin will always respond to the community around it. If you would like to help run a session for younger children, please let us know when enrolling. With enough interest and parent involvement, we can create something together. Demand it, and we will explore how to make it happen!

Older siblings aged 15 and over are also welcome. Parents may allow them to explore the destination at a level that feels appropriate for their family, while remaining responsible for their supervision and wellbeing.

If enough older siblings and friends are interested, we will explore developing a self-guided Wild Kin curriculum for a 15+ group to use during these excursions. This would give older young people greater independence while still providing meaningful questions, challenges and projects to guide their experience.

The 15+ pathway is something we may begin developing in 2027.
